The Story

During the October 2019 uprising in Lebanon, we came together as a group of Lebanese students and young professionals and partnered with Datawheel and Cesar Hidalgo to deploy a digital participation platform to be part of the Opencracia project.

We noticed that there were many demands raised with no real structure or priorities set to have a better direction of where the reforms should start.

Research

We started by collecting the demands that people are raising by looking into protesters' banners, online articles, and social media posts.

We collected 90 demands under 9 categories: Health, Justice, City/Citizen, Environment, Security, Education, Family/Personal, Economy, and Government.

How might we help the people prioritize their demands from the government?

Users: Lebanese Citizens and Diaspora

As we are launching a platform to reflect people's voice, a wide range of personas were to be taken into account

Process.

First Iteration

As the initiative is novel, we had media coverage

Media Coverage

Within our outreach strategy, we had media coverage Nationally (Agenda Culturel, Le commerce du Levant,  MTV, etc...) and internationally (Le Figaro, Le Commerce du Levant, Diario Concepción, etc...)  in addition to celebrities sharing the platform on social media.

Outreach & Analytics

Since we were seeking to engage as many users as possible, we conducted a  broad outreach using facebook and whatsapp diaspora groups around the world to attract traffic to the platform.
